PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for controlling an intake state of an air box which selectively has an influence on the operation of a motorcycle engine in a predetermined condition. SOLUTION: An intake system for a motorcycle having an engine comprises an air box, a filter element and a valve. The air box includes a first opening for receiving intake air and a second opening for supplying the intake air from the air box to a throttle assembly of the engine. The filter element is disposed within the air box for separating debris from the intake air. The valve is disposed within the air box between the filter element and the second opening.
