PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide compositions, methods and kits for amplifying nucleic acid.SOLUTION: The disclosure is directed to compositions, methods and kits for amplifying a target nucleic acid while reducing non-specific fluorescence and undesirable amplification products (sometimes referred to as secondary amplification products or spurious side-products). The enzyme inhibitor disclosed herein comprises a nucleotide sequence and at least one quencher. Also provided is a complex comprising an enzyme inhibitor associated with the enzyme, wherein at least one enzymatic activity of the enzyme is inhibited. Methods for amplifying a target nucleic acid while reducing undesired amplification products, as well as methods for reducing non-specific fluorescence are disclosed.
