Provided is a masking material 1 which can be easily attached and fixed to a long article 4 to be masked and which can be easily produced. The masking material 1 is obtained by deforming a tube made of an elastic resin material in a radial direction to shape the cross section thereof into a substantially ellipse shape. One end of the masking material 1 is a reduced-diameter portion 2 in which the shorter inner diameter L1a is less than the diameter D of the article 4 to be masked. A portion other than the reduced-diameter portion 2 in the masking material 1 is a main body portion 3 in which the shorter inner diameter L2a is greater than the diameter D of the article 4 to be masked. The masking material 1 is used by being inserted from the reduced-diameter portion 2 at the one end and attached to the article 4 to be masked. When the masking material 1 is attached to the article 4 to be masked, the elastic restoring force of the original material brings the inner circumferential surface of the reduced-diameter portion 2 into pressure contact with the surface of the article 4 to be masked, thereby fixing the masking material 1 to the article 4 to be masked.
