PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a state detecting device of an exhaust emission control catalyst capable of accurately detecting a state, including degradation, of an adsorbent of the exhaust emission control catalyst for adsorbing hydrocarbon, manufacturable inexpensively. SOLUTION: This state detecting device 21 of the exhaust emission control catalyst has the HC adsorbent 16 capable of adsorbing hydrocarbon and moisture in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine 1, and detects a state of the HC adsorbent 16 of the exhaust emission control catalyst provided on the way of an exhaust pipe 4. The state detecting device comprises a downstream-side humidity sensor 22A provided on the downstream side of the HC adsorbent 16 of the exhaust pipe 4 for detecting humidity of the exhaust gas, and an adsorbent state detecting means 25 for detecting the state of the HC adsorbent 16 according to a detection result of the downstream-side humidity sensor 22A. |
