PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the labor of the input operation of plural characters and the various kinds of information in the case that the number of installable keys is limited. SOLUTION: This portable terminal is provided with an LCD 26, a memory 17 for storing dictionary information composed of plural words and plural model sentences, a key input part 29 for inputting unit characters and a CPU 13 for retrieving the plural words and/or model sentences to be displayed on the LCD 26 from the memory 17 based on input from the key input part 29 and/or an already established character string. A desired word and/or model sentence is selected from the plural words and/or model sentences retrieved by the CPU 13 and displayed on the LCD 26 corresponding to the rotating operation of a jog dial 40 and the information on the character string established from the selected word and/or model sentence is generated.
