PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic sensor element which can read a magnetic signal smaller in width than a magnetoresistance element with a high resolution. SOLUTION: A magnetic head 1 of the present embodiment includes a substrate 2, a magnetic sensor element 3 mounted to the substrate 2, and a laser light source element 4 for emitting a light beam to the magnetic sensor element 3. The magnetic sensor element 3 is composed of a magnetic sensing portion 5. In the magnetic sensing portion 5, an insulating film 6, a lower magnetic shield layer 7, and a magnetoresistance element 8 are sequentially stacked on the substrate 2. Further, on each side of the magnetoresistance element 8, a laminated body is formed with an insulating layer 9 disposed between the laminated body and the magnetoresistance element 8. The laminated body is formed by sequentially stacking a heat conductive layer 10 for providing a heat gradient in the film surface direction, that is, in the track width direction (direction along the X axis) and a bias layer 11 for applying a bias magnetic field to the magnetoresistance element 8.
