A locking element (2) monitors safety of a machine or installation and/or prevents access to dangerous regions. The actuator is so secured to a protective cover, or an allocated frame that it engages the safety position switch drive head on frame or cover, on closing the protective cover, thus activating a switching mechanism and previously a unlocking one. Between the locking element and the protective cover, or an associated frame is located at least one door thrust absorbing damping spring (3) in the motion direction. Thus the locking element is so displaceable in the motion direction that a door follow motion can be absorbed in the locking position.
