PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize reflectivity larger than that of a conventional concentric circle type Bragg reflection mirror optical fiber, also to select a core diameter in a wider range than that of a conventional complete PBG optical fiber and to control in a wide range the number of waveguide modes and the degree of light confinement by the waveguide mode. SOLUTION: In the optical fiber wherein a fiber axis is encircled by a columnar wave reflection mirror 5, the distribution of an average reflective index in the radial direction in the columnar wave reflection mirror 5 is provided with regular structure so as to reflect a columnar wave, plural fine structures consisting of a sub medium 2 are provided in a main medium 4 composing the columnar wave reflection mirror 5, and the columnar wave reflection mirror 5 and the fine structures extend along the fiber axis, the reflective index is distributed so as not to have translational symmetry in the inside of the cross section of the columnar wave reflection mirror 5. |
