Converting a portion of a wall or railings into a gate

A portion 5 of a wall 1 and/or railings 2 is converted into a gate by separating the portion 5 from the rest of the wall 1 and/or railings 2. The separated portion 5 is supported and means is provided to move the portion between a first position within the wall 1 and/or railings 2 and a second position wherein an opening is formed in the wall 1 and/or railings 2. The portion 5 may be separated by making a horizontal cut C and at least one vertical cut A, B through the wall 1 and/or railings 2. The cuts A, B, C may be made using a saw or a water jet tool. The portion 5 may be separated by paring away grouting or cement between a line of bricks. A gatepost may be erected. Apparatus is provided for converting a portion of a wall 1 and/or railings 2 into a gate, the apparatus comprises a support adapted to supporting the portion 5 and means for moving the portion 5 between its first and second positions.
