The invention relates to a device and a method for examining the holes of a nozzle strip. The inventive device is provided with a unit for cleaning the nozzle strip and a unit which is connected to said cleaning unit and used to automatically detect the state of the nozzle holes, the holes being automatically examined for impurities and/or signs of wear by means of optical methods and optionally subjected to a complete or partial secondary cleaning process.
