A hydroelectric power generating method and apparatus (100) provides one or more inlet pipes (120) perpendicular to a flow of water (110) in a stream or river. The inlet pipes (120) have plural apertures along their length. A feedline (122) and a turbine generator combination (140) are interconnected with the inlet pipes (120) and one or more outlet pipes (160) so that the e levation of the outlet pipe(s) (160) is lower than the inlet pipe(s) (120). Water flows through the inlet pipes (120), the feedline (122), the turbine g enerator combination (140), and out the outlet pipes (160), thereby generati ng electrical power. The hydroelectric power generating method of the curren t invention also provides a pressure dissipation device that causes a reduct ion in the pressure of the water so that the water can be released safely ba ck into the stream or river.
