PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a floating material retention preventing method and floating material retention preventing equipment used in the floating material retention preventing method for preventing a floating material from being retained at a bridge by a simple structure, facilitating its maintenance, and enabling low-cost construction. SOLUTION: The floating material retention preventing equipment 1 comprises a plurality of aslant posts 2 which are erected at the upstream of the bridge B in a slanting manner with their upper ends oriented to the upstream and are arranged at predetermined intervals in a width direction of a river. The floating material retention preventing equipment 1 generates downward flow at the upstream of the bridge B so that the floating material T that flows down may go under a bridge girder B1.
