PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing yellowing and coloration of an aromatic compound polymer after the reaction in an amidomethylation reaction of an aromatic compound polymer. SOLUTION: The reaction temperature at the time of amidomethylation of the aromatic compound polymer is controlled at 6°C or lower, preferably 5°C or lower thereby to prevent yellowing and coloration of the product.
