According to the invention, in order to provide a processing element that reduces the abrupt deflection of the sonotrode as the material comes into and/or leaves contact with the carrier surface, at least in some segments in the peripheral direction, the top side is convexly curved having a radius of curvature that is less than the greatest distance of the top side from the cylinder axis or consists of at least two surface segments that include an angle < 180°.
