The present invention relates to a method of acquiring initial synchronism in a code division multiple access system which includes a process of quantizing a reception signal with predetermined multiple levels, a step of calculating correlation values with regard to the quantized reception signal and a local code, a process of calculating the absolute values of the correlation values, and a process of detecting the ID of a downlink synchronism (SYNC-DL) sequence and the position of a maximum value which exceeds a threshold value among the absolute vales, and deciding the timing value of available cells and an energy value corresponding to the timing.
