A display panel having a touch control function and a manufacturing method thereof, the display panel comprising: a first substrate (11) and a second substrate (12) oppositely disposed and a liquid crystal layer (13) sandwiched there between; the display panel further comprising a transparent cover plate (14) disposed opposite to a surface of the first substrate (11) away from the second substrate (12), a first touch control electrode (111) formed on the surface of the first substrate (11) away from the second substrate (12) and a second touch control electrode (141) formed on a surface of the transparent cover plate (14) near the first substrate (11). The present invention enables a lighter and thinner display panel having a touch control function, such that a mobile phone and other electronic apparatuses using the display panel can become lighter and thinner.
