Preparation of alkyleneglycol diether compound (I) comprises reacting an ether compound (II) in liquid phase at 170-300[deg]C and in the presence of Raney-nickel catalyst (0.1-50 wt.%) and a metal from group I, VI or VIII. Preparation of alkyleneglycol diether compound (I) of formula (R 1>-O-(CHR 2>-CH 2-O) n-CH 2-R 2>) comprises reacting an ether compound (II) of formula (R 1>-O-(CHR 2>-CH 2-O) n + 1-H) in liquid phase at 170-300[deg]C and in the presence of Raney-nickel catalyst (0.1-50 wt.%) and a metal from group I, VI and VIII of periodic system. R 1>H or 1-3C-alkyl, preferably H or CH 3; R 2>H (preferred), CH 3 or CH 2-CH 3; and n : 5-500, preferably 15-300.
