PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a ferroelectric liquid crystal and a TFT substrate for a ferroelectric liquid crystal, with which a liquid crystal display element using a ferroelectric liquid crystal with less display irregularity can be manufactured in a short time.

SOLUTION: The substrate for a ferroelectric liquid crystal comprises a substrate, a common electrode formed on the substrate, and a plurality of spacer portions formed in stripes on the common electrode, in which notches where the ferroelectric liquid crystal can be distributed are formed in the spacer portions.
