An apparatus and a method for managing digital contents are provided to control the execution of the DRM(Digital Rights Management) contents during a predetermined period before the expiration period of the DRM contents, thereby notifying effectively a user that the expiration period comes near to the user. A controller confirms whether the contents belongs to a first duration in which the contents can be normally executed(S310). If the first duration is a duration for which the contents belongs to, the controller executes normally the contents by controlling a contents executor(S320). If a second duration is a duration for which the contents belongs to, the controller executes the contents to be distinguished from the execution for the first duration by controlling the contents executor(S330,S340).
