a holding furnace that holds molten metal; a drawing member that draws the molten metal held in the holding furnace from a molten-metal surface of the molten metal; and a shape defining member that defines a cross-sectional shape of a cast-metal article to be cast by applying an external force to the molten metal drawn by the drawing member, wherein the drawing member comprises a body part and a tip part, the tip part comprising a tip having a horizontal cross section smaller than that of the body part.
