PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for decomposing COD, which is contained in industrial effluent or the like, effectively, efficiently, simply and easily, and inexpensively, and to provide a method for treating COD.SOLUTION: A chlorine-based oxidizing agent is brought into contact with COD in the presence of the catalyst comprising Ni oxide and a specific carrier to decompose COD. The specific carrier is a large-pore zeolite carrier having a specific SiO/AlOmolar ratio of 5-80, and a 12-membered ring structure. The method for treating COD being a COD-containing aqueous solution uses sodium hypochlorite or bleaching powder as the chlorine-based oxidizing agent.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
