An apparatus and a method for controlling a power mode of a set top box are provided to set a set top box in a standby mode when turning off the TV. A set top box(100) includes a tuner member(110) for receiving a digital broadcasting. A signal processing module(120) processes the broadcasting signal received from the tuner member. An HDMI/DVI(High Definition Multimedia Interface/Digital Visual Interface)(130) performs the interface with the digital TV. The digital TV(200) is interfaced by means of the HDMI/DVI and displays the digital broadcasting signal transmitted through a cable(300).
