<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus that can show preferable gradation representation without giving a sense of discomfort regardless of the contents of a displayed image. <P>SOLUTION: The appearance frequency of each luminance level represented by input video signals in each frame is accumulated in the order of luminance levels to obtain a cumulative luminance level frequency of each luminance level. A luminance level corresponding to a cumulative luminance level frequency smaller by a prescribed value than the maximum cumulative luminance level frequency in the cumulative luminance level frequencies is regarded as an effective maximum luminance level, and numbers of subfields to be assigned to the respective different luminance segment regions are set based on the effective maximum luminance level. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
