PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of projecting high quality images by adjusting the light density of excitation light irradiated to a fluorescent substance for each fluorescent substance.SOLUTION: The light source device and the projection type display device using the same include: a light source; a fluorescent substance; a fluorescent substance wheel 200; and an excitation light density change section (diffusion surface 210) that adjusts a spot size of an excitation light from the light source irradiated to a fluorescent substance layer 220. The fluorescent substance layer 220 has a first fluorescent substance layer (red fluorescent substance layer 222) and a second fluorescent substance layer (green fluorescent substance layer 223). A beam of light emitted from the light source is irradiated to the first fluorescent substance layer at a first spot size S1, and a beam of light emitted from the light source is irradiated to the second fluorescent substance layer at a second spot size S2. The excitation light density change section adjusts the light emitted from the light source so that the first spot size is different from the second spot size. |
