摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength multiplex optical communication system flexibly coping with expansion, relocation, etc. of a node by appropriately assigning wavelength with respect to a varied traffic amount in an optical ring network. <P>SOLUTION: The wavelength multiplex optical communication system is an optical ring network configured of a plurality of nodes having an optical wavelength selecting variable ADM unit branching and inserting an optical signal having an arbitrary wavelength from/to an wavelength division multiplex optical signal by switching an optical switch on and off. The above system includes a traffic monitoring means 30 for monitoring the traffic amount of the optical signals, and a control means for controlling the optical switch. The above control means includes the functions of: assigning a common wavelength for communication within the ring; assigning a fixed wavelength for communication with the outside of the ring; controlling the optical switch according to uneven traffic distribution in each wavelength monitored by the traffic monitoring means; and modifying the correspondence between the optical signal wavelength and an address, while controlling the optical switch. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
