A lithium secondary battery is provided to realize high capacity, excellent lifespan characteristics and stability particularly under a high voltage and high slurry density. A lithium secondary battery comprises: a cathode(2) capable of lithium ion intercalation/deintercalation; an anode(3) capable of lithium ion intercalation/deintercalation; and an electrolyte comprising a non-aqueous organic solvent and a lithium salt. The cathode active material comprises: a core material comprising a compound having a structure represented by the formula of LiaNibCocMndMeO2 (wherein M is an element selected from the group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, Group 13 and 14 elements, transition metals, rare earth elements and combinations thereof, a is 0.95-1.1, b is 0-0.999, c is 0-0.999, d is 0-0.999 and e is 0.001-0.2), or LiaMn2MbO4 (wherein M is an element selected from the group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, Group 13 and 14 elements, transition metals, rare earth elements and combinations thereof, a is 0.95-1.1, and b is 0.001-0.2); and a surface treatment layer formed on the core material and comprising a compound represented by the formula of M'xPyOz (wherein M' is an element selected from Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ra, Sc, Y, Ti, Zr, Hf, Rf, V, Nb, Ta, Db, Cr, Mo, W, Sg, Tc, Re, Bh, Fe, Ru, Os, Hs, Rh, Ir, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, B, Al, Ga, In, Ti, Si, Ge, Sn, P, As, Sb, Bi, S, Se, Te, Po and a combination thereof, x is 1-4, y is 0-7, and z is 2-30). The lithium salt comprises LiPF6 and a lithium imide compound represented by the formula of LiN(CpF2p+1SO2)r(CqF2q+1SO2)s (wherein p is 1 or more, q is 1 or more, r is more than 0 and equal to or less than 3, and s is 0-3). |
