Disclosed is a plastic optical element (also simply referred to as "an optical element") which has improved photostability and excellent transparency and can show these properties for a long period. Also disclosed is an optical pickup device having good pickup properties and produced by using the optical element. The plastic optical element comprises a resin composition comprising at least a vinyl organic polymer containing a metal element and an inorganic microparticle.
