An A/D converter (10) for providing a digital output signal obtained by digitalizing an analog input signal (V<SUB>IN</SUB>) comprises a plurality of comparators (14) each of which compares the analog input signal (V<SUB>IN</SUB>) with a respective analog threshold value corresponding to a designated digital threshold value data; an upper-field deciding part (18) that restricts, based on a plurality of comparison results obtained by supplying the different threshold value data to the plurality of comparators (14), data values corresponding to an upper field in the digital output signal; a lower-field calculating part (20) that uses the plurality of comparators to calculate a plurality of candidate values for the data values corresponding to a lower field lower than the upper field; and a lower-field deciding part (22) that decides, based on the plurality of candidate values, data values corresponding to the lower field.
