<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contour correcting method which performs correction such as intensification of a contour suitable for characteristics of an input image, an image processing apparatus which applies contour correction using the method, and a display device for displaying an image to which the contour correction has been applied. <P>SOLUTION: Noise is eliminated from an inputted image by a noise elimination filter 21 and a contour component is extracted by a contour component extraction unit 23. The contour component is extracted by calculating a difference between a smooth image obtained by smoothing the input image in a smooth image generating unit 24, and the inputted image. The extracted contour component is compared with a threshold value by a contour component comparing unit 26, and a total sum of contour components equal with or greater than the threshold value is calculated by a total sum calculating unit 27. On the basis of the total sum and average luminance of the input image calculated by an average luminance calculating unit 22, a control circuit 11 determines a degree of intensification of the contour. The determined intensification degree is adjusted by an intensification degree adjusting unit 28, and the contour component is intensified by a contour component intensifying unit 30 in accordance with the intensification degree and added to the inputted image, thereby performing contour intensification processing. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
