The invention is directed to a method of treating a disorder or condition using an alpha-2-delta ligand with high affinity and selectivity for the alpha-2-delta-1 calcium channel subunit subtype. Administration of the al?ha-2-delta-1 selective ligand, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, to a mammal, including a human, avoids or reduces the adverse effects compared to the administration of an alpha-2-delta non-selective ligand.
