A linear motor comprising a movable element having permanent magnets the poles of which are alternately aligned in the driving direction, and armature units in which multiple armatures are arranged in the driving direction at prescribed intervals, wherein the armatures have: a first magnetic pole tooth and a second magnetic pole tooth arranged on surfaces opposing the surfaces of the permanent magnets, with a magnetic gap therebetween; an armature core connecting the first magnetic pole tooth and the second magnetic pole tooth; and armature windings wound respectively on the first magnetic pole tooth and the second magnetic pole tooth. When the number of phases of the current driving the linear motor is R (an integer of 1 or greater), the number of armatures contained in an armature unit is S (an integer of 1 or greater), the number of coupled linear motors driven with power supplied from a power converter is N (an integer of 2 or greater), and the number of all of the armatures of the same phase is H=N*S/R, a first serial connection, wherein the armature windings wound on the first magnetic pole teeth of H armatures of the same phase are connected in series, and a second serial connection, wherein the armature windings wound on the second magnetic pole teeth of H armatures of the same phase are connected in series, are formed, and the first serial connection and the second serial connection are connected in parallel with the same phase. |
