PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening device which can prevent a sash from falling off, even if the sash is accidentally moved in a state wherein cover materials on a sill is removed. SOLUTION: This opening device is equipped with a frame 2 which is composed of a head 2a, a sill 2b, a left jamb 2c and a right jamb 2d, and the sashes 3 and 4 which are provided in the frame 2 in a horizontally openable/closable manner; a top surface of the sill 2b, which is formed as an almost flat surface, is split into a plurality of parts so as to be composed of the detachable cover materials 37b, 39b and 39a; the sashes 3 and 4 are drawn to one side so that the cover materials 37b, 39b and 39a can be attached/detached; and the sill 2b below the cover materials 37b, 39b and 39a is provided with a stopper 86 for preventing the sash from falling off, which is automatically protruded above the sill 2b by an urging means such as a spring 92 at the removal of the cover materials 37b, 39b and 39a, so as to inhibit the movement of the sashes 3 and 4 to the side of the removal of the cover materials 37b, 39b and 39a.
