Disclosed is a method for interpolating an image in a sub-pixel unit using a transform-based interpolation filter. The method for interpolating an image comprises: individually selecting a symmetric interpolation filter or an asymmetric interpolation filter based on an interpolation position according to the interpolation position of a sub-pixel unit, among the interpolation filters for generating a pixel value of at least one sub-pixel unit positioned between pixels of an integer pixel unit; and generating the pixel value of the at least one sub-pixel unit by interpolating pixel values of the pixels of the integer pixel unit using the selected interpolation filter.
