METHOD FOR SURFACE BLASTING CAVITIES, PARTICULARLY CAVITIES IN GAS TURBINES

In a surface polishing process to treat the inner faces of a void forming part of a gas turbine engine, small spheres are introduced into the void and are agitated by exposure to ultrasonic energy. The spheres are agitated at a frequency of between 20 kHz and 40 kHz. The spheres are tungsten carbide or steel alloy e.g. 100Cr6.
