<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively suppress rattling of a rack shaft in a steering mechanism of a steering device. <P>SOLUTION: The steering mechanism 5 of a center take-off type steering device 1 includes a cylindrical rack housing 15 having an oblong hole 34 extending in a longitudinal direction U, a mounting bracket 39 for mounting the inner end 28b of a tie rod 28 on a rack shaft 14, and a slider 38 interposed between the mounting bracket 39 and the rack shaft 14 and slidable on an inner periphery 34a of the oblong hole 34. The inner periphery 34a of the oblong hole 34 and the slider 38 include sliding contact sections 34b, 38c that are brought into sliding contact with each other along with the slide of the slider 38.
