PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network connecting apparatus in which security of a network is maintained by including a security function in the apparatus itself, and which is capable of preventing packet transmission efficiency from being deteriorated by allowing an unnecessary packet to flow within the network. SOLUTION: A port communicable with each of ports is set to a decision circuit 13b and the setting can be changed by a personal computer 200. A packet data analysis circuit 13a then reads a data packet stored within a FIFO 12a, and performs address analysis at a destination address 21 and a source address 22. At a port specified by the destination address, if a port specified by the source address is decided as a communicable port by the decision circuit 13b, the decision circuit 13b sends the data packet to the FIFO 12b and allows the packet to flow to any one of communicable ports 10a-10d via any one of PHY chips 11a-11d.
