PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a fuel oil base material of extremely low sulfur content but nevertheless having excellent oxidation stability by controlling the content of the materials effecting to oxidation stability of fuel oil. SOLUTION: The production method of fuel oil base materials, obtaining a fuel oil base material having≤3 mass ppm sulfur, 5-20 vol.% aromatics,≥0.05 vol.% content of condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon having≥2 rings but no saturated ring and of the aromatics, and≤2.00 vol.% total of styrenes and dienes, by contacting in the coexistence of hydrogen, a stock oil having 5-10 mass ppm sulfur and 10-21 vol.% aromatics, with a porous desulfurizing agent having sulfur absorbing function, is provided.
