A shelf assembly 1 in which the mounts 2 are one piece mouldings having a plate 4, from which a channel 6 extends. The channel 6 is closed by an end wall 8. For each shelf assembly 1, a pair of the mounts 2 are made left and right handed, respectively. The depth of the channel 6 at the plate 4 end has a lead-in taper 12. The channel 6 has a spline 14 that cooperates with a corresponding keyway 22 formed on the surface of a shelf. The spline 14 is a linear elongate member of constant cross section throughout its length and provides engagement and alignment means for mounting the shelf 16, whilst the mounts 2 cover the side edges of the shelf to present a neat and aesthetically pleasing shelf assembly 1.
