PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a format method by which magnetic information can be given correctly in a servo area already decided in the disk surface. SOLUTION: In formatting of the magnetic disk in which a plurality of servo areas having a servo pattern constituted of a magnetic object and a non-magnetic object are arranged radiately, a first step in which a plurality of marks indicating respective peripheral direction positions of the plurality of servo areas are formed previously at an end part area along a peripheral edge in the magnetic disk and the magnetic disk is rotated, a second step in which arrival of any one out of the plurality of marks in one point on rotation-movement paths of the plurality of marks is detected, a third step in which rotation of the magnetic disk is stopped in response to detection of arrival of the mark, and a fourth step in which a magnetic field is applied to a servo area corresponding to the mark of which the arrival is detected, are repeated, thereby, magnetic processing by which magnetization directions of the magnetic objects in the plurality of servo areas are adjusted is performed successively for the number of fixed areas.
