PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head capable of locally projecting a reproduction element to a recording medium side, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The thin-film magnetic head is provided with a reproduction element, a recording element stacked on the reproduction element and having a pair of magnetic core layers and a coil layer for applying a recording magnetic field to the magnetic core layers, and a heater which is energized to generate heat, thereby projecting the reproduction element to a recording medium side by thermal expansion.
