PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for playing and editing a video, capable of processing a long-time video by preventing the increase of a recording area. SOLUTION: According to the method and the device for playing and editing a video, an index file 24 is read, and video data is read from a video file 25 based on the index file 24. Then, a video is played and edited by a video application 21, and a codec 23 creates a new index file, and this new index file is stored in the video data file 25. In the case of playing and editing the video, the video data is read based on the index file 24. Thus, a long-time video is processed, and a file stored after editing is limited to the index file 24.
