PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber preform processing machine, an optical fiber preform fitting apparatus, an optical fiber preform fitting method and an optical fiber preform processing method in which an operator can insert a dummy rod or an optical fiber preform into a chuck of a processing machine body, without gripping those directly.SOLUTION: An optical fiber preform fitting apparatus 10, an optical fiber preform processing machine 1 equipped with the apparatus, an optical fiber preform fitting method, and an optical fiber preform processing method includes: a rotating axis 11 existing longitudinally along with a rod-supporting axis line A1 to which a glass rod 70 supported by a chuck 5 is positioned; a holding device 12 which is mounted at the rotating axis 11, and holds and supports the glass rod 70 in the direction along with the rotating axis 11; and a rotating and axial driving device 15 which performs motion driving in the direction along the rod-supporting axis line A1 of the rotating axis 11 and rotation around the rotating axis 11. |
