PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for detecting the deposition amount of toner of a plurality of colors without using a plurality of types of photodetectors. SOLUTION: A prescribed object is irradiated with illumination beams having different wavelengths from one another, mirror surface reflection beams from the prescribed object by illuminating beams from a plurality of light sources which are made to correspond to toner of different colors respectively are received respectively, and the deposition amount of the toner of the color which is made to correspond to the light source to the prescribed object is decided on the basis of the quantity of the received light of the mirror surface reflection beams from the prescribed object by the illuminating beam of one of the light sources among the plurality of light sources.
