A multilayer capacitor 10 wherein: a pair of external electrodes 3 comprise end face parts 3e, 3f that cover end faces, a first main surface extending part 3c and a second main surface extending part 3d that respectively extend on a first main surface 1a and a second main surface 1b, and a first lateral surface extending part 3g and a second lateral surface extending part 3h that respectively extend on a first lateral surface 1e and a second lateral surface 1f; each external electrode 3 is formed of a base electrode 4 and a metal layer 5; the metal layer 5 comprises a first metal layer 5a and a second metal layer 5b that is positioned outside the first metal layer 5a; and in ridge parts 6 between the end face parts 3e, 3f and the first main surface extending part 3c as well as in respective ridge parts 6 between the first lateral surface extending part 3g and the first main surface extending part 3c and between the second lateral surface extending part 3h and the first main surface extending part 3c, an intermetallic compound layer 5c, which contains metals that are contained in the first metal layer 5a and the second metal layer 5b, is positioned outside the first metal layer 5a so as to be exposed from the second metal layer 5b. |
