PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for enantioselectively preparing aβ-cyanocarboxylic acid from anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative whereby the reaction can proceed even when the type of theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid as a reaction object is diversified. SOLUTION: The method is one used for preparing aβ-cyanocarboxylic acid represented by formula II from anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative represented by formula I and comprising the step of obtaining theβ-cyanocarboxylic acid derivative by reacting theα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative with a cyano source in the presence of a ligand represented by formula III and a catalyst active site source represented by Mx(OR3)y(wherein M is a metal; R3is, for example, an alkyl group; and x and y are integers stoichiometrically determined from the metal M).
