PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for remote operation that remotely operate an operated device, which is not connected to a network, through the network. SOLUTION: An IR signal is sent from an IR remote controller 7 to a display device 4 and converted into IR data (digital data) by the display device 4. Then the IR data are transferred to an AV server device 5 through the network 100 and the AV server device 5 restores the IR data from the IR signal and emits light of the signal toward a DVD reproducing device 8 which is not connected to the network 100.
