PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide toner having excellent release property at a low temperature, hardly causing filming, achieving both of low temperature fixing property and heat-resistant storage property, giving high picture quality even in a long-term use, and having a small particle size and a narrow particle size distribution. SOLUTION: The toner is obtained through processes of dissolving or dispersing a polymer as a binder resin or its precursor, a colorant, wax and inorganic fine particles in an organic solvent to prepare an organic solvent phase, emulsifying or dispersing the organic solvent phase in an aqueous medium, and removing the organic solvent. The toner is characterized in that: the toner contains inorganic fine particles the surfaces of which are treated to impart hydrophobicity; and the wax contains a wax having at least a melting point of 50 to 90°C and having a molecular chain composed of only C-H and C-C bonds.
