PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of the so-called electrooptical device with a built-in peripheral circuit. SOLUTION: An X address decoder 120 controlled by an X control circuit 112 selects X selection lines of a column designated by an X address, and a Y address decoder 140 controlled by a Y control circuit 116 selects Y selection lines of a row designated by a Y address. A sample-and-hold circuit 130 is provided along an X direction between a display area 100 and the X address decoder 120 and samples data bits output from a data bit supply circuit 114 to bit lines corresponding to the selected X selection lines. A timing control circuit 110 being a group of the X control circuit, the Y control circuit, and the data bit supply circuit is provided along the X direction so as to face the sample-and-hold circuit 130 with the X address decoder 120 between them.
