PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control valve type lead-acid battery mainly suitable for motor car application, and balancing an output characteristic with a cycle life characteristic at a high level. SOLUTION: In this control valve type lead-acid battery, a first mat separator and a second mat separator formed of an acid-proof fiber such as a synthetic resin fiber or a glass fiber are arranged between a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate in a state stacked on each other; tensile strength of the first mat separator is set not smaller than 9-30 N/mm<SP>2</SP>; and, when it is assumed that a vacancy volume of the second mat separator in a state incorporated in a battery and the volume of an electrolyte included in the vacancy volume are A and B, respectively, an electrolyte filling rate C provided by (B/A) is set not smaller than 0.76. Thereby, the control valve type lead-acid battery significantly excelling in both an output characteristic and a cycle life characteristic is composed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
