The locomotive has a main generator (2) for a drive device (3) and an auxiliary generator (7) for auxiliary devices (6) connected to a diesel engine, whereby the main generator is connected via a first rectifier (4) to an intermediate d.c. traction circuit (5). The auxiliary generator is connected via a second rectifier (8) to an intermediate d.c. auxiliary operating circuit (9). The main generator is connected to the intermediate d.c. auxiliary operating circuit via the first rectifier and a DC/DC converter (10).
